North of Auckland is a beautiful region of golden beaches, forest, and relaxed seaside towns. Coupled with a sub-tropical climate and some great wildlife, we were excited to see more of Northland and it lived up to all expectations!
Having made our way down the East coast, and across the middle of the North Island, we now found ourselves on the West coast heading North back toward Auckland. Surf Highway 45 is a popular road trip route, although there wasn’t any surf on our visit, with plenty to see and do along the rugged coast.
Having made our way around the beautifully secluded East Cape, we enjoyed a night dining in Gisborne before heading to the wonderful Hawkes Bay area for the next few days.
After months of planning, and the inevitable countdown to the last day of work, we finally packed up the car heading off from Auckland for another three-week adventure. This year exploring the North Island.
For our ultimate week in Japan we have picked out an itinerary that is often referred to as the Golden Route. This is a must do journey for a first-time visitor to Japan giving a real insight into this incredible country. Just three hours north-west of Tokyo by shinkansen, the modest city of Iiyama sits in the heart of the Nagano ski area. Although a largely overlooked area, Iiyama has something to offer the more adventurous traveller at any time of the year.
Kanazawa is located three hours North-West of Tokyo, in Ishikawa Prefecture, making it an easy addition to most Japan touring itineraries. Accessed easily by shinkansen the city is beautiful, historic and relatively unspoilt.
As Tokyo is the main point into Japan it is often required to stay a night at the beginning or end of an itinerary. For the second-time visitor this is no issue as the city offers so much, you can never get bored, and there is always something new to discover. We have put together some awesome activities from our latest trip that are well worth another stay in the capital.
